OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton women's basketball team opens its 2012-13 road schedule at South Dakota State on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

Last Week: 11/10; L, 69-48 vs. No. 12 Oklahoma
The Jays got off to a fast start as Creighton jumped out to an 8-2 lead behind good ball movement against the Sooners, but ultimately gave way to the 12-ranked Sooners, 69-48.  Creighton was held just 17-of-65 from the field (.262) and 7-of-31 (.226) from beyond the arc.  Oklahoma, meanwhile, shot .482 for the game (27-of-56), including 7-of-14 from three-point land.

The Bluejays are 0-4 all-time against Oklahoma.  The first two meetings came in Norman, Okla., while the last two have been in D.J. Sokol Arena.  With the victory the Sooners became just the second visiting team to earn two victories in D.J. Sokol Arena.  The other is Missouri State.

Shooting Aberration:
Creighton’s 17-of-65 (.262) performance against the Sooners was the lowest shooting percentage in a game for the Bluejays since the Jays were 10-for-44 (.227) in a 63-57 loss to Bradley on Jan. 22, 2010.

Road Opener Information
Creighton is 1-9 in its road-openers under Jim Flanery, but the victory came last season.  The Bluejays won their season-opener last year at North Dakota, 72-54 on Nov. 11.

Creighton holds a 3-0 series edge on the Jackrabbits, including a 76-69 win in the only meeting in Brookings, S.D. on March 20, 2008.  That contest was an NIT Tournament game.

2011-12 Road Opener
Sarah Nelson led all players and tied a career-high with 17 points as the Creighton women’s basketball team opened the 2011-12 season with a 72-54 road victory at North Dakota.  Nelson scored 13 of her game-high 17 points in the first half, making 5-of-6 field goals, as the Bluejays shot 15-of-27 from the field (.556) in the opening frame, including 14-of-19 (.736) inside the three-point arc.

Creighton’s first double-digit lead of the night came when senior DaNae Moore score her first basket of the night just 70 seconds into the half.  The closest the home team could get the rest of the way, was a 45-38 Bluejay advantage with 12:08 to play.  A late 11-0 Bluejay run sealed the victory for Creighton. 

Nelson finished 7-for-8 from the field and 3-of-5 from the free-throw line to lead all players and tie her career-high with 17 points.  Jensen finished with 13 points, making 3-of-7 three-pointers, to go along with four assists in just 24 minutes of action.  Carli Tritz added 10 points and five assists in 23 minutes. 

Flanery vs. Summit League
Creighton is 9-2 against teams currently in the Summit League under head coach Jim Flanery.  The Bluejays, however, dropped their last contest against a Summit League opponent as they fell to South Dakota last season in D.J. Sokol Arena 56-53 (OT) on Nov. 22, 2011.

Current Creighton Director of Basketball Operations, Sara Cain, was in the starting lineup and tallied four blocked shots the last time the Jackrabbits and Bluejays met in 2008.

Scouting the Bluejays (0-1)
Creighton struggled in its season-opening loss, 69-48, loss to No. 12 Oklahoma. The Jays shot just 26% from the field (17-for-65) and 22% from beyond the arc (7-for-31).  Juniors Carli Tritz and Sarah Nelson were held to a combined 11 points, five and six respectively.  That was just the ninth time that duo have both been held out of double-figures in the same game.  Creighton is 3-6 in those contests.  Senior Ally Jensen had the best game for Creighton, posting 13 points on 5-of-10 from the field, including three three-pointers.

Scouting the Jackrabbits (1-1)
South Dakota State split two games last weekend in the Minnesota/ Best Buy Classic.  The Jackrabbits fell to Villanova, 71-47, on Saturday, Nov. 10, but rebounded to defeat Washington State, 65-56, on Sunday, Nov. 11.  Sophomore Mariah Clarin led the way for SDSU with 16 points in the win over the Cougars.  In two games, Clarin is averaging 11.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.  Senior Ashley Eide showed her shooting touch in the opening two games as the 5-9 guard was a combined 5-for-10 (.500) from three-point land and 9-for-25 (.360) overall.  The 2011-12 Summit League champions, SDSU picked to repeat in the preseason poll.  The Jackrabbits, coached by Aaron Johnston, received 22 of 25 first-place votes. SDSU completed a sweep of Summit League titles last season, winning their third regular season title in five years and their fourth consecutive postseason tournament title.  Eide was the lone Jackrabbit selected to the All-Summit League preseason teams, earning a First Team nod.
