OMAHA, Neb. - Creighton sophomore Eric Miller was one of 19 players selected to play for the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team, announced late Monday afternoon.
U.S. National Team head coach Tab Ramos will lead the U.S. team in a series of international friendlies against Canada, Scotland and Azerbaijan from Oct. 6-17 at the 2012 Marbella Cup in Marbella, Spain.
"It is a huge honor to be selected to represent your country," said Miller. "I'm excited to be part of this team, to play against some of the best in the world."
Miller was granted an exception to play in the Jays' match against Southern Illinois Edwardsville on Saturday, Oct. 6, then will fly to join the U.S. Team on Sunday, Oct. 7. Miller will return to the Jays on Oct. 17, but will miss the Bluejays matches at Princeton (Oct. 9), at Central Arkansas (Oct. 13) and vs. UMKC (Oct. 16).
This is the third time Miller has earned an opportunity to play for the U.S. National Team internationally and his fourth time overall. The Woodbury, Minn., native was also selected to play in the 2012 Northern Ireland Milk Cup, held July 21-26, 2012. In addition, Miller joined the team for a training camp in Portland in April of 2012 and participated in a South America tour with the team in June.
"Playing internationally allows you to test our where your game is," said Miller. "Hopefully I can learn from the players I face and those I'm with. Then bring that knowledge back to Creighton to make myself a better player and make my teammates better."
