Volleyball 33rd in AVCA Poll; Browning Retains Blocking Lead
Release: 09/24/2012
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton Volleyball team moved down one spot to 33rd in the AVCA Division I Coaches poll released on Monday.  Creighton (11-2, 3-0 MVC) went 1-1 last week, losing in five sets at Kansas and sweeping Drake in Omaha.

In this week's AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 poll, the Jays are in 33rd place, earning 14 votes in the poll. This is the fifth time in program history that the Jays have received multiple votes and shown up in the "others receiving votes" listing, and second-best mark ever. For the second straight week, the Jays were the only MVC representative in the poll.

In addition, Monday marked the third edition of the Rich Kern Percentage Index, a ranking system developed by RichKern.com that mimics the official NCAA RPI. Thanks in part to four wins over top-53 foes (Wisconsin, Tulsa, Northern Colorado, Wichita State), the Jays are now 12th in the in this week's RKPI.
Creighton's only losses have come to No. 3 Kansas State and No. 8 Kansas, and the Bluejay schedule is ranked 17th-toughest nationally.

Statistically, sophomore Kelli Browning continues to lead the nation in blocking, averaging 1.71 blocks per set. Browning also ranks 26th nationally in hitting percentage at .398. She is the only Bluejay individual in the top-110 of a statistical category.

As a team, the Jays average of 3.10 stuffs per set ranks third nationally, trailing only Texas and Washington State. Creighton is also ranked among the top-100 in winning percentage (19th, .846), hitting percentage (32nd, .259), digs per set (65th, 16.19) and kills per set (96th, 13.29).

Creighton hosts South Dakota (7-8) at 7:08 pm on Tuesday in a match that can be heard on KZOT (1180 AM). The match will also be televised in Omaha on Cox Channel 2.
