TAMPA, Fla. -- Creighton Volleyball's's first tournament title since 2006 helped land some hardware for a pair of Bluejays. Senior Megan Bober was named USF Invitational MVP, and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Michelle Sicner.
The team was announced on Sunday at the conclusion of USF's 3-2 win over in-state rival UCF.
This is the fifth time in Bober's career she's been chosen as All-Tournament pick, but her first MVP honor. The recognition for Sicner is her second, as she was an Ameritas Players Challenge All-Tournament honoree last year.
A senior from Murdock, Neb., Bober had three consecutive double-doubles to lead the Jays to the title. She had 36 assists, 12 digs, six kills and five blocks while hitting .385 in the season-opening win vs. UCF. On Saturday vs. host USF, Bober approached a triple-double with 22 assists, 14 digs and eight kills on .353 hitting. Bober finished with 38 assists, 10 kills and eight digs on .474 hitting in the clincher vs. Wisconsin. For the weekend, she averaged 8.73 assists, 3.09 digs, 2.18 kills and 0.64 blocks per set on .408 hitting.
Sicner, who shared setting duties with Bober most of last season, made the transition to right-side hitter with ease. She averaged 1.91 kills and 1.45 blocks per set while hitting .378 on the weekend. Sicner had six kills and a career-best eight blocks on .429 hitting vs. UCF, then followed that with 10 kills on career-best .643 efficiency in the win vs. USF. She concluded her weekend with five kills and six blocks (all in the final two sets) in CU's win vs. Wisconsin that wrapped up the title.
Creighton returns to action on Friday when it hosts Syracuse in the Bluejay Invitational at 6 pm. Denver and nationally-ranked Kansas State open play in the Bluejay Invitational with a 3:30 pm contest.
