Release: 09/02/2014

OMAHA, Neb. - Head coach Bruce Erickson officially announced the promotion of Chris Dunford and the hiring of Cortney Wiesler as assistant coaches on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Dunford served as the Bluejays' Director of Soccer Operations (2012) and the volunteer assistant coach last season.  Chris has been instrumental in preparing scouting reports on opponents as well as planning coaching sessions with the staff.

“Chris has been a dedicated, talented member of our coaching staff over the last two years and I am excited to have him a part of the program in a full time roll," said Erickson. "He is a great teacher of the game and has been key in identifying talent for us in the recruiting process.”

Before coming to Creighton, Dunford was a soccer coach in Morristown, New Jersey (2008-11) working with UK Elite Soccer Inc., Advanced Total Soccer, Princeton Soccer Association and the Mount Olive Soccer Club. Dunford also served as a coach for Brazilian Soccer Schools in Lichfield, England (2008) and as an assistant for the women’s team at Nebraska Wesleyan in 2007.

Dunford earned his bachelors in coach education and sports development at University of Bath in 2006. His connection to Nebraska began as an undergraduate when he spent the 2004-05 academic year studying abroad at University of Nebraska.

"I am excited to continue growing with the Creighton program," noted Dunford.

Wiesler joins the Bluejays after five seasons at Kentucky, serving as the Director of Soccer Operations (2009-13).  She was directly responsible organizing all Kentucky Soccer Camps and was instrumental in breaking down game film.  Cortney also assisted with recruiting for Kentucky and helped create in-game strategy.

Cortney played soccer for the Golden Bears of West Virginia Tech (NAIA), where she earned All-Mid-South Conference honors while serving as team captain from 2005-07.  Wiesler went on to earn her undergraduate degree from West Virginia University in 2007 (Athletic Coaching Education).

“Cortney has been a great addition to our staff, coming from a highly successful program," said Erickson.  "We hope those experiences will help our program continue to grow and be successful. She is a tireless worker and will be involved in many aspects of our team."

"Creighton is a wonderful program and I am thrilled to help bring this team to the next level," said Wiesler.

Rounding out the 2014 staff Ivonne Valentin has transitioned into a new role as the Director of Soccer Operations and Sebastian Furness will serve as the goalkeeper coach in a volunteer capacity.
