-- Bryan Sova threw 4.2 innings of scoreless relief and fellow senior Brad McKewon had a walk-off single in the 10th inning as Creighton Baseball topped Seton Hall, 4-3, on Saturday night before 14,022 fans at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
Creighton evened the weekend series with Seton Hall with Saturday's win while improving to 24-14-1 overall and 9-2 in the BIG EAST. SetonHall dropped to 33-10 and is 7-4 in league play.
CU's 10th inning rally came against a pair of Pirates relievers. Zach Prendergast (0-2) walked the first two men he faced without authoring a striking before giving way to Conor Krauss. Krauss retired Jerry Mitchell on a sac bunt that moved pinch-runner Daniel Woodrow to third and Nicky Lopez to second with one out. McKewon then lofted a 2-0 pitch into deep right-center for his second game-winning RBI of the spring, plating Woodrow with his first career run.
Sova (4-0) entered the game with one out and a man on second baes in the sixth inning after 5.1 innings of work from sophomore starter Taylor Elman. Sova would escape the jam, but not before tying runner D.J. Ruhlman scored on a two-out single by Kyle Grimm.
The senior sidearmer pitched out of numerous jams the rest of the way, including a pickoff of Ruhlman at second base in the eighth and a diving tag of first base with two out in the ninth inning to beat speedy Derek Jenkins to first. He allowed four hits and three walks in 4.2 innings, throwing a career-high 82 pitches.
