OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton baseball team earned a sweep of Fresno State with a 6-2 win over the Bulldogs on Sunday, March 23. The win moved the Bluejays to 10-6-1 on the season, while Fresno State fell to 15-9.

Creighton took control of the game in the second inning, taking advantage of three Fresno State errors and two hits to plate three runs.

Sophomore Reagan Fowler opened the inning with an infield single to third that deflected off the glove of Fresno State's Chris Mariscal to allow Fowler to take second.  One out later sophomore Joey Mancuso singled up the middle to put runners at the corners.  Senior Jerry Mitchell followed with a well placed safety squeeze up the first base line.  Fresno State pitcher Tim Borst, however, sailed the throw to first into left field to allow Mancuso to move to third and sent Mitchell to second.  Leading 1-0, sophomore Ryan Fitzgerald bounced to first for an RBI ground out.  After retiring Fitzgerald Bulldog first baseman Trent Woodard tried to cut down Mancuso at the plate, bouncing the throw off Fitzgerald's helmet.  The error allowed Mitchell to come home and gave Creighton a 3-0 lead.

The squads traded single runs in the fifth, Creighton's coming with two outs as junior Jake Peter was hit by a pitch and senior Mike Gerber doubled down the left-field line to make it 4-1.

After the Bulldogs inched closed with a run in the sixth, the Bluejays tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth on an RBI pinch-hit single from junior Kevin Lamb and a bases loaded wild pitch.

Seven Bluejay pitchers combined on the effort, with sophomore Will Bamesberger picked up his first win as he got the final out of the fifth inning by working out of a bases loaded jam.  Bamesberger struck out one in two-thirds of an inning of work.

Creighton returns to action on Wednesday, March 26 as the Bluejays host Kansas at 6:30 pm in TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
