Baseball Suffers 5-1 Loss at Arkansas-Little Rock in Season Opener

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The Creighton baseball team suffered a 5-1 loss to Arkansas-Little Rock in the 2014 season opener on Friday, Feb. 14.

The Bluejays went down 1-0 in the first inning as Arkansas-Little Rock opened the game with a single through the left side by Ben Crumpton.  The Trojans' third baseman stole second, then moved to third on a ground ball to first.  Crumpton came around to score on another ground out.

Creghton pulled even with a run in the top of the fifth on an RBI double from senior Brad McKewon.  Junior Landon Lucansky roped a one-out single to left, Lucansky moved to second on a single through the left side by sophomore Tommy Clouthier.  McKewon followed with a blast to left to drive home Lucansky.  Clouthier, however, was cut down at the plate for the second out of the inning.

Arkansas-Little Rock wasted little time reclaiming the lead, plating an unearned run on a two-base error and a single in the bottom of the fifth.  The Trojans added three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Sophomore Taylor Elman was the tough-luck loser, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk in five innings.  Arkansas-Little Rock's Travis McDonald earned the win, limited the Bluejays to one run on seven hits in five innings.

The Bluejays and Trojans continue their three-game series on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m. (CT).
