Jennie Hartjes Earns BIG EAST Womenís Tennis Player of the Week

OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton junior Jennie Hartjes was named the BIG EAST Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Marquette senior Dan Mamalat earned the same honor on the men’s side, on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Hartjes went 4-0 over the weekend as the Bluejays posted a 2-0 record as a team to build some momentum in the early spring. She earned a pair of singles victories at the No. 1 flight, picking up a 7-5, 6-1 win on Saturday against North Dakota’s Stephanie Petsis before Sunday’s 6-0, 6-1 triumph versus Western Illinois’ Jenna Wallace. Hartjes and doubles partner Katherine Nelson also picked up two victories over the weekend, 6-2 on Saturday against North Dakota and 6-0 on Sunday versus Western Illinois. The Bluejays took Saturday’s match on Saturday 4-3 and posted a 7-0 win on Sunday.

Hartjes and the Bluejays return to the court on Friday, Feb. 14 as Creighton opens its home schedule against Illinois State at 12:30 pm.
