Women’s Tennis Falls to Wichita State

KANSAS CITY – The Creighton women’s tennis team fell 5-0 to Wichita State in Kansas City on Saturday afternoon.

Creighton (0-3) and former MVC rival Wichita State (1-2) opted to begin play with singles action. WSU swept five singles matches to earn the victory; the teams did not compete in doubles.

CU junior Jennie Hartjes dropped a tight match to Rebecca Pedrazzi 7-6, 6-4 on court one. At No. 2 singles Creighton senior Analese Snyder fell 6-1, 6-2 to Julia Schiller.

At No. 4 singles, junior Liz Vermillion dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Veronika Blaskova. Classmate Amanda Noonan fell by the same score on court five to Abby Stevens. CU sophomore Karlin Naslund suffered a 6-1, 6-0 setback on court six to Montse Blasco Fernandez.

Creighton freshman Katherine Nelsen did not finish her match on court three against Lucia Kovalova after dropping a close first set 7-5.

The Bluejays are slated to play a neutral-site match in Waterloo, Iowa against North Dakota at 11 a.m. on Feb. 8.
