A pair of Creighton (8-6-2) sophomores scored on the evening. Second-year CU defender Eric DeJulio scored his first goal of the year as he connected on a header in front of the net following a corner kick by sophomore Timo Pitter to give the Bluejays a 1-0 advantage. The goal marked DeJulio’s second in his career – both game winners.
Drake (8-6-3) kept the match at a one-goal game entering halftime. Creighton outshot Drake 6-2 in the first 45 and attempted three corner kicks to two for the Bulldogs.
The Jays scored again in the 57th minute as sophomore Christian Blandon sent a ball into the goal from left to right after assists by junior Jose Ribas and Pitter. The score was Blandon’s third this season.
Creighton continued to apply offensive pressure on the Bulldogs, forcing a change in net for DU as Rich Gallagher took the place of starter Darrin MacLeod just minutes after CU’s second goal.
The Bluejays finished the night with a nine-shot advantage of 13-4 and led corner kick attempts 7-2.
CU sophomore goalkeeper Connor Sparrow earned the start and finished with two saves and improved to 2-1-1 overall while MacLeod took the loss to fall to 8-3-2.
Creighton closes out its home slate against BIG EAST foe DePaul on Saturday at 4 p.m. CT at Morrison Stadium as part of a doubleheader with the CU women’s soccer team. The Bluejay men will honor their six seniors in a Senior Day ceremony this weekend.
