DES MOINES, Iowa – The Creighton women’s tennis team collected five victories on day one of the Drake Jamboree held at the Bulldogs’ Knapp Tennis Center on Friday.
All eight Bluejays on the active roster played at least one singles match and one doubles contest on the opening day.
CU junior Jennie Hartjes led the Jays with three wins on the day. In singles, Hartjes claimed a three-set victory over Bradley’s Adele Henke 6-3, 6-7, 10-3.
In doubles play the Woodbury, Minn. native scored defeats of two Drake teams with different Bluejay partners. Hartjes and freshman Katherine Nelsen defeated the Bulldog duo of Lea Kozulic and Klavdija Rebol 8-6. Sophomore Sam Anderson joined Hartjes on the court for another 8-6 decision over DU’s Mariel Ante and Amanda Dick.
Anderson also claimed a singles win over Carly Miles of Bradley 6-3, 6-1.
Creighton junior Liz Vermillion registered a three-set victory over Bradley’s Sarah Rodefeld 7-6, 2-6, 10-5.
