Paluch teamed up with freshman Jake Norman in a first-round doubles main draw match. The Jays’ 8-7 (6) defeat of Tomislav Gregurovic and Geuillermo Nicol of Wichita State clinched the record for Paluch and advanced the duo to the second round.
With 65 career doubles victories, Paluch moved past CU head coach Tom Lilly and Karl Monson in the record books.
Later in the day, Paluch and Norman fell 8-3 to Vasili Caripi and Lucas Gerch of Oklahoma State in a second-round main draw match.
CU junior Elliott Baker and sophomore Brandon Lee teamed up to slip past Justin Adams and Dan Rodefeld of Bradley 8-7 (4) in a first-round match. The tandem later dropped its second-round contest against No. 5 seed Austin Siegel and Dane Webb of Oklahoma.
In singles action, Baker missed out on a chance to advance to the main draw after a 6-0, 7-5 setback to Trevor Horstman of Oklahoma State in the final round of the men’s qualifying draw. Lee and his opponent Caripi both moved into the main draw as lucky qualifiers.
Lee matched up against Christian Lee of Arkansas in a first-round singles main draw match where he dropped a 6-2, 7-6 (3) decision to the Razorback.
Paluch fell 6-3, 6-4 to Jonas Dierckx of Iowa in his first-round singles main draw match.
Both Paluch and Lee will play singles main draw consolation matches on day three.
Norman claimed the Jays’ lone singles victory of the day to advance to the second round of the main draw. The Bluejay freshman doubled up Ashton Kalhorn of Bradley 6-4, 6-4. Norman’s reward is a second-round battle with No. 9 seed Ben Lott of Drake on Saturday.
ITA Central Region Championship play continues at 8 a.m. CT Saturday at the University of Tulsa.
