MANHATTAN, Kan. -- The Creighton golf team finished fifth at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The nine-team event took place at the par-72 7,486 yard Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan, Kan. The field included host school Kansas State, Sam Houston State, Southern Illinois, Grand Canyon, South Dakota, Omaha, Drake and Central Oklahoma.
Creighton finished with a team score of 935 (313+301+321).
Sam Houston State took top honors with a 900 (303+297+300). Kansas State (312+286+304=902) and Grand Canyon (314+306+305=925) finished second and third, respectively.
Zach Cabra of Sam Houston State finished first with a 213 (73+67+73). Alex Carney (70+74+75=219) of Kansas State participated as an individual but finished second overall and Grand Canyon’s Mark Geddes (84+71+65=220) finished third.
The Jays had two golfers in the top 20, led by Kade Brown. The freshman finished tied for 15th with a 233 (75+75+83) for the best placing of his young career. Johnny Spellerberg finished tied for 17th with a 234 (78+77+79). Daniel McKernan finished third for the Jays. He shot a 237 (80+76+81), which placed him in a tie for 25th.
