OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton men’s and women’s tennis teams combined to win seven singles crowns during the final day of the Omaha Collegiate Invitational on Sunday at the Koch Tennis Center.
The CU men’s squad won four singles championships while the ladies picked up three. Overall, Creighton advanced 11 players to their respective singles Flight Championship matches on Sunday; four of those were “All-Bluejay” contests.
In men’s singles Flight A, CU senior Billy Paluch knocked off freshman Jake Norman in the final 7-5, 6-1. Creighton sophomore Quinn Dippel conquered junior Elliott Baker 6-4, 6-2 in the Flight C deciding match.
CU freshman Aaron Chalstrom outlasted sophomore Anthony Rauschenbach 6-4, 7-5 in the Flight E championship. Freshman Jake Glazer edged out Jake Sheldon of Northern Colorado in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 to claim the Flight G crown.
In women’s singles Flight A, senior Analese Snyder edged junior teammate Jennie Hartjes 6-1, 3-6, 10-8 in the championship match. Freshman Katherine Nelsen needed three sets to win the Flight B singles crown over Faith Lee of North Dakota 6-4, 4-6, 10-4.
CU junior Liz Vermillion defeated Tiffany Filipovich of South Dakota State to claim the Flight D singles championship by a score of 7-6, 6-2.
Both CU squads are off until competition begins at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships hosted by Tulsa University and the University of Oklahoma on October 17.
