OMAHA, Neb. – The No. 6 Creighton men’s soccer team held a 1-0 lead at halftime but cross-town foe Omaha answered in the second half to knot the game at 1-1 as the Bluejays and Mavericks battled to a regulation tie in the final exhibition match for both squads at Morrison Stadium Friday night.
Creighton junior Zabarle Kollie scored his first goal in a Bluejay uniform in the 38th minute off of a threaded pass from sophomore Timo Pitter. Kollie connected on a header and pushed it into the left side of the goal to give the Jays an early advantage.
CU went into halftime with the 1-0 lead.
Omaha responded in the second half when Vance Rookwood scored an unassisted goal in the 74th minute to knot the match at 1-1. Emerging from a screen, Rookwood sent a shot into the left side of the net to tie the score.
A vocal crowd of 3,133 watched the cross-town foes battle at Morrison including large student contingents from both schools.
Creighton opens the regular season on Aug. 30 when it hosts No. 14 Tulsa at 7:30 p.m. at Morrison Stadium as part of a soccer doubleheader with the CU women’s team beginning at 5 p.m. against North Dakota.
