ST. LOUIS, Mo. - In their final season as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference, the Creighton Baseball team had four Jays earn All-MVC Recognition.  The four Jays were junior Federico Castagnini (All-MVC Honorable Mention), sophomore Jake Peter (All-MVC Second Team & MVC All-Defensive Team), senior Alex Staehely (All-MVC Second Team) and freshman Tommy Strunc (All-MVC Honorable Mention).

A two-time MVC Player of the Week (April 8 & 22), Castagnini has a .317 average, including 51 hits in his first season with the Jays.  Federico is third on the team with 27 RBI and has consistently been in the top five of the NCAA in sacrifice's per game, entering the MVC Tournament with 19 sacrifice bunts (0.45 per game).

Peter picked up the first two of what is likely to be an overloaded award bookcase.  He is the Bluejays' leader in average (.345), hits (67), RBI (35) and is second in doubles (10), triples (5) as well as slugging percentage (.464).  Defensively, Peter committed just four errors in 219 chances, a .982 fielding percentage.  On the mound, Jake has served as the Jays' closer this season, collecting six saves and two wins in 14 appearances.  Peter has a 3.07 ERA in 14.2 innings, walking just three batters and collecting 18 punch-outs.

Staehely closed his Creighton career with his first All-MVC selection.  The four-year Bluejay starter, posted a .252 average in 2013.  Staehely collected 41 hits, including two home runs (second on the team).  He leads Creighton with 12 doubles and is second for the Jays with 26 walks.  Alex opened the 2013 season by earning the MVC Player of the Week nod on February 18.

Creighton's final award winner was freshman hurler, Tommy Strunc. Grabbing the reins of the Bluejay staff, Strunc claimed the mantel of ace by early March.  He closed the regular season with a 7-2 record in 13 starts.  Strunc led the Jays with 70.0 innings pitched, earning a 4.11 ERA.  Tommy enters the MVC Tournament with 55 strikeouts and 39 walks.

The No. 3 seed, Creighton opens the MVC Tournament against No. 6 Indiana State on Tuesday, May 21 at 9 a.m.
