TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -The Bluejays dropped a 6-1 decision to Indiana State on Friday, April 12, No. 30 Creighton was held to just four hits.
The loss dropped Creighton to 18-7 overall and 5-2 in Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) play. Indiana State, meanwhile moved to 15-13 on the season and 5-5 in MVC action.
Down 1-0 entering the top of the third, the Jays appeared poised to take control of the game as sophomore Kevin Lamb and junior Brad McKewon singled to open the inning. Junior Federico Castagnini reached on throwing error by Indiana State third baseman Koby Kraemer.
The Jays, however, managed just one run as sophomore Jake Peter grounded into a double play, then junior Mike Gerber lined out to second to end the inning.
The Sycamores gained momentum by escaping the top of the third giving up just one, plating three runs in their half of the frame. The runs came via two walks and a three-run home from Robby Ort over the right field wall.
Indiana State added two insurance runs in the seventh on RBI singles by Jacob Hayes and Jordan Pearson
Creighton and Indiana State will continue the three-game series on Saturday, April 13 at 1:00 p.m. (CT) as the Jays send senior Nick Musec to the hill. Musec will square off against Sycamore ace, Sean Manaea.
