-- A five-game winning streak that saw Creighton men's basketball capture the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season and tournament titles has returned the team to the national rankings.
Creighton is No. 23 in this week's Associated Press poll and No. 24 in this week's USA Today Coaches poll.
Creighton's AP rank is its first by that poll since being tabbed 16th in the Feb. 4th edition. This is the 15th different week the Bluejays have been ranked this year, which reached a season-best at No. 11 on Nov. 26th. The Jays have now been ranked in 27 of Greg McDermott's 56 weeks as CU head coach.
This is the 16th time this season the squad has been ranked by the coaches. Creighton started the season 15th in the preseason and climbed as high as 10th on Jan. 14th, only to drop out in the Feb. 18th edition. The Jays earned a single vote in the Feb. 25th poll to rank 40th and be listed in those "also receiving votes" before their recent run.
In other news on Monday, junior forward Ethan Wragge was named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team. Wragge is a three-time MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week this year (Jan. 9, Jan. 16, Feb. 8) and had 15 points in CU's win vs. Wichita State on Sunday. He is a Finance, Marketing and Entrepreneurship major and holds a 3.22 grade-point average.
Wragge is the first Bluejay named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team since Anthony Tolliver in 2006-07.
Creighton clinched its 18th NCAA Tournament bid in school history on Sunday with a 68-65 victory over Wichita State in the finals of the MVC Tournament. The Jays will learn their NCAA opponent and site on Sunday in a 5 pm selection show airing on CBS.
