Menís Tennis Wraps Up MVC Individual Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa (Jan. 20) - Creighton men's tennis players completed the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Individual Tennis Championships held at Drake's Roger Knapp Tennis Center Sunday.

Creighton had a tough day on the courts as four players participated on the final day of the Championships, contesting one singles final and a pair of doubles semifinals.

CU senior Sean Mathison was the only Bluejay to advance to a singles final. In a rematch from Friday Mathison fell 6-2, 6-2 to Drake's Ben Mullis - the No. 109 ranked player in the nation - in the Flight 5 finale Sunday.

In doubles Mathison teamed up with freshman Nick Thompson and dropped an 8-1 decision to eventual Flight 3 champions Tesmer and Lott of Drake in a Sunday semifinal.

In Sunday's Flight 1 doubles semifinal, senior Billy Paluch and freshman Brandon Lee fell 8-3 to eventual champions Pelaez and Eisner of Illinois State.

The Bluejays open the spring dual match season when they host Western Illinois at 6 p.m. on Feb. 2.
