ST. LOUIS -- Ethan Wragge and Ally Jensen of Creighton University have been selected Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today. Wragge and Jensen were honored for their performances during the period of December 31 through January 6.
Now in its 14th year of existence, The Valley’s Scholar-Athlete program honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.
Junior Ethan Wragge averaged 15.0 points off the bench in two wins last week for Creighton. He opened his week with a season-best 21 points in 19 minutes during a 79-72 victory at Illinois State. Wragge made 6-of-9 three-pointers in the win, including his first four attempts. He wrapped up his week with nine points on 3-of-6 shooting from downtown in a 79-66 win over Indiana State, making all of his shots in the second half of a seven-minute stretch that gave the Jays the lead for good. Ethan is a Finance, Marketing and Entrepreneurship major and holds a 3.22 grade-point average.
Senior Ally Jensen drained a career-high six three-pointers in the Jays’ win at Evansville. Her long distance dialing moved Jensen into into sixth place in Creighton history from beyond the arc with 179 treys. Ally wrapped up the opening weekend of MVC play with 24 points, all on three-pointers as she was 8-of-15 from long distance. She also tallied seven rebounds, five assists and just one turnover in 57 minutes on the court. Jensen holds a 3.65 grade-point average as a Nursing major.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
