OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's basketball team moved up one spot to 11th in the USA Today coaches poll while remaining 16th in the Associated Press rankings that were released on Monday.
Creighton has now been ranked in the top 17 by both groups in each of the first nine polls of the season. The No. 11 rank in the coaches poll matches the program's highest ranking this season, also done the week of Nov. 26th. The Jays played just once last week, an 87-70 victory over Evansville, to open MVC play and improved to 12-1 overall.
Statistically, Creighton ranks among the nation's top-20 in nine different categories. The Jays are second in three-point percentage (.425), seventh in win percentage (.923), eighth in three-pointers per game (9.2), ninth in field goal percentage (.508), 10th in assist/turnover ratio (1.49), 11th in assists per game (17.4), 13th in scoring margin (18.2), 19th in total points (1,034) and 20th in scoring offense (79.5).
Individually, Grant Gibbs is second in assist/turnover ratio (5.43) and 25th in assists per game (5.8), Doug McDermott is third in points per game (23.5), 35th in free-throw percentage (.878) and 47th in field goal percentage (.553). In addition, Gregory Echenique ranks 43rd in double-doubles (4) and 90th in blocked shots per game (1.69) and 99th in rebounds per game.
Creighton (12-1, 1-0 MVC) continues Missouri Valley Conference play on Wednesday when it plays at Illinois State (9-4, 0-1 MVC) at 7:05 pm.
