Ed Servais Named Assistant Coach for USA Baseball

DURHAM, N.C. - Creighton's head baseball coach Ed Servais was tabbed as one of three assistants for USA Baseball's 2013 Collegiate National Team on Tuesday, Dec. 18.  Joining Servais on TCU's Jim Schlossnagle’s four-man staff are Mike Bianco of Mississippi and Tim Esmay of Arizona State.

Servais will coach team defense and serve as the first base coach for the USA National Team.  He enters his 10th season leading the Creighton baseball program in 2013 as the winningest coach in Bluejay history with 327 victories. With a career record of 327-195, Servais led the Jays to the NCAA Tournament in three of the past six seasons (2007, 2011 & 2012) and was named the Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year four times in his tenure at Creighton (2004, 2005, 2007 & 2011).

“It is an honor to have the opportunity to work with USA baseball and to represent our country,” said Creighton head coach Ed Servais.  “I am looking forward to working with the coaches and the players and the entire USA baseball staff this summer.”

Servais has coached 43 players to All-MVC honors, including 19 All-MVC First Team selections. He has coached nine All-Americans and had 15 Bluejays selected in the MLB Draft. Servais’ teams have finished among the nation’s best in fielding percentage and sacrifice bunts every season, including 2012, when the Bluejays finished eighth in fielding percentage (.978).

This is the second stint for TCU's Schlossnagle as a coach for USA Baseball as he served as an assistant in 2006. Esmay, Bianco and Servais will be making their debut with USA Baseball, each currently serve as head coaches for their respective universities.

“As we continue preparations for the 2013 Collegiate National Team season we are pleased to have Mike Bianco, Tim Esmay and Ed Servais join the coaching staff,” said Eric Campbell, USA Baseball General Manager, National Teams. “These coaches complete a great staff for the coming summer, and we look forward to having them represent our country in international competition.”

The dates for the 2013 schedule and opponents will be announced in the coming weeks on
