ST. LOUIS -- Megan Bober of Creighton University and Lucas Eitel of
Indiana State University have been selected Missouri Valley Conference
Scholar-Athletes of the Week, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today.

Now in its 14th year of existence, The Valley’s Scholar-Athlete
program honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a
one-week period and academic success in the classroom.
A setter for the 21st-ranked Creighton volleyball team, Bober, a
senior from Murdock, Nebraska, was named most valuable player of the
2012 MVC Championship, as the Bluejays won their first-ever tournament
title with victories over Illinois State (3-1 on November 23) and
Wichita State (3-0 on November 24).
A six-time MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week choice in 2012, Bober, who
has a 3.827 cumulative grade-point average in exercise science,
averaged 9.29 assists, 2.43 kills, 3.43 digs and 1.00 blocks while
hitting .378 in seven sets. During the weekend, she became the first
player in MVC history to record at least 4,000 assists, 800 kills, 1,000
digs and 400 blocks.
A guard for the Indiana State men’s basketball team, Eitel, a junior
from Marshall, Illinois, hit 11-of-12 shots from the field, including
9-of-10 from three-point range, as the Sycamores won on the road at Ball
State (68-48 on November 20) and at home versus High Point (76-62 on
Eitel, who has a 3.62 cumulative grade-point average in education,
averaged 15.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. Against High Point, he
earned his first career start and scored a career-best 25 points on the
strength of 9-of-9 shooting, including an Indiana State record of 7-of-7
from behind the three-point arc.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week
laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average
of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution
and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not
eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes
will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
