OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton Volleyball seniors Brooke Boggs and Megan Bober have been named to the 2012 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete First Team. Boggs and Bober are two of four Valley
first team scholar-athletes who were also
members of their respective Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District
Teams.
Boggs was an honorable-mention pick in 2011 and owns a 3.91 GPA in Health Administration/Policy. She ranks fourth in program history with 120 matches played, and has moved into the top-15 with 890 career digs. Creighton has won all 18 matches in which she's had eight or more digs this fall, and on Nov. 5th the Wildwood, Mo., native was honored with the MVC Service & Leadership Award.
Bober, a repeat member from the 2011 First Team, owns a 3.83 GPA in Exercise Science and has been named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week five times this fall. She ranks as the only player in MVC history with at least 750 kills, 4,000 assists, 1,000 digs and 400 blocks and this year is the nation's only player to average 9.50 assists, 0.90 blocks and 1.75 kills per set. The Murdock, Neb., native owns six triple-doubles this fall and 15 in her career. She is the program's active career leader in kills, digs, aces, blocks and assists. Bober is a two-time All-Valley selection who is likely to earn the honors once again on Thursday at the pre-tournament awards banquet.
This year’s first team includes 10 players that have received previous MVC volleyball scholar-athlete recognition, including five repeat first team honorees. UNI's Shelby Kintzel is the lone honoree with a perfect 4.00 GPA.
Forty-two student-athletes were nominated for the Valley’s scholar-athlete team. The criterion for the honor parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA (on a 4.00 scale). Also, students must have participated in at least 75 percent of the regular-season matches. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore status in both athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen were not eligible). Teams are voted on by sports information directors around the league.
