OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton overcame a 10-point deficit in the second half with runs of 10-0 and 17-0 as the nation's No. 15-ranked men's basketball team topped UAB, 77-60, before 15,755 on Wednesday night in Omaha.

Trailing 45-35 with 17 minutes left, the Jays got 10 straight points from reserve guard Josh Jones in a span of 1:17 to tie it and kick-start a 40-12 flurry that left the crowd in a frenzy. When it was over, Creighton had built its lead to 75-57 in the waning seconds before the teams traded scores late.

Creighton improved to 2-0 on the season, while UAB dropped to 1-1 as new Blazers coach Jerod Haase was handed his first loss as a head coach.

Creighton's Gregory Echenique had 13 points and tied a career-best with 16 rebounds, sinking 5-of-5 shots from the floor and all three attempts at the line while playing 31 minutes. He also had four blocked shots and a steal while dominating the paint all night long. Also in double-figures for CU were Grant Gibbs (13) and Ethan Wragge (12).

With All-American Doug McDermott on the bench for all but seven minutes of the first half due to foul trouble, UAB controlled the pace.
