OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's basketball team is ranked 16th in the Associated Press preseason top-25 poll, which was released Friday. It's the poll's highest preseason rank in school history for Creighton, and the highest preseason rank for an MVC team since the 1981-82 Wichita State team was No. 6 in the preseason.
Creighton is the lone Missouri Valley Conference school represented in the top-25, which also includes Nov. 23 opponent Wisconsin at No. 23. Future opponents Saint Joseph's and Northern Iowa also received votes in the poll.
Prior to today, the only other preseason AP recognition had come in 2006-07, when the Jays were tabbed No. 19 in the preseason poll.
Creighton spent 11 weeks in the Associated Press poll last season, reaching as high as No. 13 the week of January 30th, before ranking No. 19 in the final AP poll issued prior to the NCAA Tournament.
Last week Creighton was tabbed 15th in the preseason coaches poll released by USA Today.
Creighton opens the 2012-13 season with an exhibition next Friday (Nov. 2) vs. Mary before regular-season play begins with a Nov. 9 contest vs. North Texas.
Season tickets are available by calling (402) 280-JAYS, while single-game tickets will go on sale at 10 am Central on Monday, Oct. 29th.
