Bober Earns MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week Honors
Release: 10/10/2012
ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Megan Bober of Creighton University and Andrew Riggs of Missouri State University have been selected Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week.  Bober and Riggs were honored for their performance during the period of October 1-7.

Now in its 14th year of existence, The Valley’s Scholar-Athlete program honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.

A setter for the Creighton volleyball team, Bober, a senior from Murdock, Nebraska, hit .475 and averaged a triple-double (32.5 assists, 11.0 kills and 13.5 digs per match), as the Bluejays posted four-set victories against Northern Iowa (October 5) and Bradley (October 6).

The MVC Player of the Week and a three-time MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week selection in 2012, Bober, who has a 3.911 cumulative grade-point average in exercise science, opened her week with 35 assists, 14 digs, eight kills, three service aces and two blocks in the triumph against UNI, snapping the Panthers’ 59-match winning streak in league play.

Bober followed with 14 kills, 30 assists and 13 digs versus Bradley for her 11th career triple-double -- a figure that ranks second all-time in MVC history.  She also hit .636 in the contest, the best figure for a four-set match in program history.

A goalie for the Missouri State men’s soccer team, Riggs, a sophomore from St. Peters, Missouri, registered his league-leading sixth shutout, a 1-0 overtime blanking of Memphis (October 3).

Riggs, who has a 3.69 cumulative grade-point average in actuarial mathematics, finished with three key saves, including a point-blank stop in the 15th minute.  He also sits atop the Conference in goals against average (0.51) and save percentage (.850).

To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.

Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible.  In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
