Scouting the Creighton Bluejays (3-7-2, 0-1-0 MVC):

The Jays continued to improve with each contest, despite their 3-7-2 record.  Creighton fought defending Missouri Valley Conference champion Illinois State to a 2-1 decision, surrendering the deciding goal in the 89th minute.

Creighton travels to Terre Haute for a Friday contest against the Indiana State Sycamores, whom the Bluejays hold a 14-0-0 series edge on.

Indiana State and Creighton last met in Terre Haute, Ind., on Sept. 26, 2010.  The Jays claimed that contest 2-0.  Creighton has shut out Indiana State in the last three meetings.

Offensively, senior Brittney Neumann continues to lead Creighton’s offensive charge this season with five goals and 11 points. Youth, however, has been the driving force for the Jays this season as five of the Bluejays’ 10 freshmen have already scored in 2012.

Defensively the Jays have steadily improved as the season has gone on, after surrendering 13 goals in their first six matches, Creighton has limited its last six opponents to just seven goals.

In goal the Jays continue to rely on senior Katie Jo Swanson, who has played every second for Creighton this season.  Swanson’s Goals Against Average (GAA) is at 1.58 and with 80 saves in 2012 she ranks 11th in the nation.  On the season Swanson has allowed 20 goals for a .806 save percentage.

The matchup between Creighton and Indiana State will be the Sycamores “Think Pink” game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Scouting the Indiana State Sycamores (5-7-1, 0-1-0):

Indiana State is looking for anything other than a loss to the Jays as in 14 meetings the Sycamores are 0-14-0 against Creighton.

The Sycamores won their last match, 3-0, at UW-Green Bay, but were shut out in the previous three at home to Miami (Ohio) (0-4), Northern Iowa (0-1) and Loyola-Chicago (0-1).

Offensively Indiana State has scored 12 goals this season, led by three from freshman Sydney Lovelace.  Sophomore Marisa Windisch is the overall point leader for Indiana State with seven points on two goals and three assists.

The Sycamores have exclusively used freshman Erin Mitchell in goal this season. She has allowed 17 goals, holds a 1.30 GAA and made 45 saves.  She also has four shutouts.
