DES MOINES, Iowa -- A pair of wins from freshman Sam Anderson led the Creighton Women's Tennis team on Sunday as it wrapped up play at the Drake Fall Invitational.
Anderson defeated Wichita State's Summer Schlotterback 6-2, 6-1 and Nebraska Omaha's Lindsay Weideman by a 6-2, 6-2 count to take the consolation bracket title in Flight C. Anderson finished the weekend 3-1 in singles play.
Creighton had two players come up short in their attempt to win their singles flight title on Sunday. Amanda Noonan dropped a 6-2, 7-6 (1) match to Drake's Jordan Eggleston in Flight F. In Flight D, Liz Vermillion lost a 6-4, 6-2 decision against Northern Illinois' Arantza De La Torre.
Elsewhere in Flight D, Creighton's Karlin Naslund won 5-7, 6-0 (10-6) over Iowa State's Emma Waites to win the consolation bracket crown.
At Flight A, Jennie Hartjes beat North Dakota's Stephanie Petsis 6-4, 6-3 before falling to Drake's Lea Kozulic in a 7-5, 6-2 match.
Also on Sunday Creighton's Taylor Koehrsen won a 3-6, 6-3 (10-3) tiebreaker against South Dakota's Nina Barudzic.
Creighton returns to action in two weeks when it hosts the Omaha Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 29-30.
