LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Creighton women’s golf team finished 12th at the Chip-N-Club Invitational in Lincoln on Tuesday. The par-72, 6,075-yard layout at the Country Club of Lincoln played host to 13 schools from eight states, including in-state rivals Nebraska and Nebraska Omaha.
The Jays finished with a final score of 1013 (332-343-338). SMU won the team title shooting a combined 903, Missouri placed second with 918 and North Dakota State finished third with a 932.
Alexandra Rossi of SMU took individual honors shooting a 219 (70-81-68). Amy Anderson of North Dakota State (221) finished second, just one shot ahead of Missouri’s Michelle Butler (222).
Mary Cathryn Rau was tops in the clubhouse for the Jays. The sophomore finished tied for 46th with a 250 (86-80-84). Fellow sophomore Rachel Thompson finished second for the Jays. She finished the course 52nd with a 253 (82-84-87). Finishing only one shot behind Thompson was senior Celeste Gassman (83-88-83=254). Sophomore Katie Morel (55th, 81-91-84=256) and newcomer Maddy Albers (72nd, 90-94-95=279) rounded out the top five.
Freshman Grace Yowell, competing as an individual, finished tied for 67th shooting a 263 (86-88-89).
The Jays return to action Sept. 24-25 at the SIUE Intercollegiate in Edwardsville, Ill.
