Creighton Women Host UMKC in Single Match this Week

OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton women's soccer team faces UMKC in a single match on Thursday, Sept. 13 in Morrison Stadium.

Scouting the Creighton Bluejays (2-5-1):
The Jays split two contests last week, besting local rival Nebraska Omaha 4-1 on Friday, Sept. 7 and falling at Cal State Fullerton, 1-0, on Sunday, Sept. 9

The four goal outburst was the largest scoring total of the season for Creighton, keyed by two goals from senior Brittney Neumann.  The Omaha native scored the first and third goals of the contest.  Neumann’s first goal was blasted through the keeper, while she dashed on a breakaway from midfield for her second goal.  Neumann leads the Bluejays with three goals this season, giving her 27 in her career to move her into a tie for fourth all-time for the Jays.  Neumann also climbed the Creighton ranks for multiple matches, moving into a tie for second with seven.

Neumann’s performance earned her the Missouri Valley Offensive Player of the Week honor.  It is the fifth time that Neumann has earned the award.

Not to be outdone, senior keeper Katie Jo Swanson set a career-high with 11 saves in the 1-0 loss to the Titans.  She faced 22 saves in the contest, keeping CS Fullerton at bay until the 89th minute.  Swanson has played every second in goal for the Jays this season (541:31).  She has a 1.82 Goals Against Average (GAA) this season.

UMKC has shown a strong defense in 2012, posting three shutouts.  The Roos have allowed just seven goals in seven matches.  Junior Tyler Bare has led the UMKC offense, scoring three of the Roos’ five goals in 2012, including both game-winners.

UMKC has split its goalkeeper duties this season between senior Jami Finnell and freshman Nina Tzianos.  Each player started one match last weekend, Finnell against Tulsa and Tzianos versus Saint Louis.  Tzianos has had the better statistical season thus far, posting a 0.68 GAA in four matches and a 1-1-2 record in those contests.
