Megan Bober Named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week

ST. LOUIS -- Megan Bober of Creighton University has been selected the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  Bober was honored for her performance during the period of August 20-26.

Now in its 14th year of existence, The Valley’s Scholar-Athlete program honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.

A setter for the Creighton volleyball team, Bober, a senior from Murdock, Nebraska, was named the most valuable player of the 2012 USF Invitational, while leading the Bluejays to victories over Central Florida (3-1 on August 24), South Florida (3-0 on August 25) and Wisconsin (3-1 on August 25).

The MVC Player of the Week and National Player of the Week, Bober, who has a 3.827 cumulative grade-point average in exercise science, had three consecutive double-doubles.  She averaged 8.73 assists, 3.09 digs, 2.18 kills and 0.64 blocks per set while hitting .408, as Creighton defeated teams from the Big Ten, Big East and Conference USA.

Bober had 36 assists, 12 digs, six kills and five blocks while hitting .385 in the season-opening win over UCF.  Versus USF, she approached a triple-double with 22 assists, 14 digs and eight kills.  She finished with 38 assists, 10 kills and eight digs while hitting .474 in the clincher against Wisconsin.

This is the third time Bober has been honored as MVC Scholar-Athlete of the week, tying a program-record. She previously earned the recognition twice last year.

To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.

Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible.  In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
