OMAHA, Neb. - Looking for their first win of the season, the Creighton women's soccer team will host Utah State then travel to No. 4 Oklahoma State this weekend.
Scouting the Creighton Bluejays:
The Bluejays 2012 season got off to a disappointing start as Creighton gave a strong effort before falling to Iowa State, 1-0 in overtime on Sunday, Aug. 19 in Morrison Stadium. Senior goalkeeper Katie Jo Swanson fended off the first 23 shots, recording nine saves in the loss. Creighton’s best scoring chance of regulation came in the 80th minute, as Stephanie Anasi’s blast from 15 yards out deflected off the crossbar. Brittney Neumann led the Jays with five shots on the day, including two on net.
Scouting the Utah State Aggies:
Building upon a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2011, Utah State appeared to start the season in stride by taking its opening two contests against Utah (1-0) and UTEP (2-1). The Aggies needed overtime in their opening contest with the Utes, in the fourth minute of the extra period, junior Jennifer Flynn delivered the game-winner. Flynn fired a 20-footer off a Utah defender to push the Aggies past their interstate rival. Two days Utah State rallied back from a 1-0 deficit with two goals in the final 15 minutes to claim a 2-1 win.
In two contests Utah State has split time in goal. Senior Ashlyn Mulford played the match against Utah, while freshman Jeannie Woller minded the net against UTEP. Despite being 2-0-0 on the season, the Aggies have been outshot 26-21 in 2012 and given up eight corners.
Scouting the No. 4 Oklahoma State Cowgirls:
Expected to be the biggest test for Creighton this season, Oklahoma State opened 2012 with back-to-back 1-0 victories over UMKC and Weber State last weekend. Senior Adrianna Franch has yet to allow a goal in 180 minutes.
Oklahoma State outshot its two opponents, 47-11 last weekend, limiting UMKC to just three shots.
