OMAHA, Neb. - Behind goals from Jose Gomez and Bruno Castro, the Blue team upended the White squad 2-0 in the Blue/White Scrimmage on Sunday, Aug. 12.
After a scoreless first half, Gomez got the Blue team on the board in the 56th minute. Fighting with two defenders along the right side of the net sophomore Eric Miller found Gomez open in front of the net. Miller's pass allowed Gomez to beat keeper Jeff Gal to the left side for a 1-0 lead.
Late in the game Castro added some insurance with a goal at the 88:56 mark. Sophomore Jose Ribas found Castro streaking up the seam of the field. The pass from Ribas hit Castro in stride, allowing him to blast the goal into the back of the net.
The Blue team controlled possession for most of the contest, outshooting the White team 22-6. The Blue squad held a 4-3 edge on corner kicks.
Gal finished with four saves, while sophomore Alex Bolowich made one save for the Blue team.
Creighton continues its exhibition season on Friday, Aug. 17 as the No. 3 Bluejays host No. 9 Maryland in Morrison Stadium at 7 p.m. The Bluejays wrap up exhibition play on Sunday, Aug. 19 against Nebraska Omaha at 4 p.m.
