OMAHA, Neb. - Creighton's sure-handed third baseman Chance Ross has become the most recent member of the 2012 Bluejay squad to ink a professional baseball contract.  Ross signed a free agent deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and will start his career in Phoenix, Arizona, playing for the AZL Angels in the Arizona Rookie League.

Ross joins Bluejay teammates Anthony Bemboom (playing for the Orem Owls in the Rookie Pioneer League) and Kurt Spomer (also playing for the AZL Angels) as Bluejays to sign with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  Ty Blach signed with the San Francisco Giants after being picked in the fifth round of the MLB Draft.

"When I got the phone call, I was really excited just to get the opportunity to play at this level because it is something I have always dreamed of," said Ross.  "I'm looking forward to the challenge of playing baseball at the pro level and everything that comes along with that."

Ross started all 119 games he played in his two years at Creighton, holding the hot corner at third base and helping lead the Bluejays to back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference Tournament titles for the first time in program history.  Ross finished second on the squad in 2012 with a .301 batting average, combining to finish his career with a .260 average.

He was named to the 2012 Missouri Valley Conference All-Defensive team, leading the Bluejays in many offensive categories: slugging percentage (.425), on-base percentage (.413), runs scored (48), total bases (96), hit by pitch (14) and stolen bases (14), while tying for the team lead with four triples.  He also finished with a .930 fielding percentage.

Ross was named to the MVC All-Tournament team at third base, finishing the series 7-18 (.389) with nine RBI and five runs scored, while also picking up MVC Scholar-Athlete honors following the 2012 season.
