OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's basketball team had the country's largest average home attendance increase in the recently completed 2011-12 season, according to figures released by the NCAA.
The Bluejays ranked a best-ever sixth nationally in 2011-12 with 16,665 fans per home game, after ranking 22nd nationally in 2010-11 with 13,507 fans per game. The increase of 3,157 (when factoring in fractions) was not only the nation's largest leap, but one of the top three increases nationwide in the past five seasons.
The 16,665 fans per home game was a CU and Missouri Valley Conference record, and included six of the 11 largest crowds in program history in 2011-12. It also marked the largest average for any non-BCS school in the country.
This was the ninth straight season that Creighton led the MVC in average home attendance and seventh consecutive season that Creighton surpassed 200,000 fans. No other school in MVC history has ever reached 200,000 fans even once.
