Women's Tennis Swept in Regular Season Finale
OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton women's tennis team concluded regular season play on Sunday morning with a 7-0 loss against Drake. The loss puts the Jays at 11-9 overall on the season, 2-5 in MVC play this year, giving them the No. 6 seed in the MVC Tournament held next weekend in Omaha.
The two teams split the opening two matches in doubles play, but Drake held on in the final match to take the 1-0 lead into singles play. Manca Krizman and Gabriela Demos defeated Jennie Hartjes and Analese Snyder 8-0 in the No. 1 doubles before Elizabeth Vermillion and Amanda Noonan teamed up to post an 8-6 win over Klavdija Rebol and Earlynn Lauer in the No. 3.
Drake then swept through singles play, with No. 5 singles the lone spot to go to three sets. Rebol downed Snyder 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles before Krizman defeated Hartjes 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles. Jessica Aguilera defeated Vermillion 6-3, 6-1, followed by Demos securing the win with a 6-1, 6-2 win over McMullan at the No. 3 singles.
Amanda Aragon defeated Noonan in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 before Koehrsen pushed her No. 5 match to three sets, splitting the opening two but falling 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 to Nell Boyd.
The Missouri Valley Conference Team Championships will be played in Omaha next weekend at the Koch Family Tennis Center. Admission to the event is free.
