DES MOINES, Iowa - In the final races of the fall season, head coach Dan Chipps was very impressed with his women's crew team and the growth they have made over the fall season.
"I was very proud of the way the team rowed at Drake," said Chipps. "We raced Drake two weeks ago at Iowa and their boats were ahead of us by 30 and 45 seconds. Our boats made up a lot of time over the last couple weeks and practiced hard to do so."
Creighton's lone win of the day came in the Varsity-4, where coxswain Jen Ventura led four freshman to a 6:03.87 final, 38 seconds faster than the finish by the Drake Varsity-4 finish at 6:41.26.
Drake won the Varsity-8 and Second Varsity-8 by just four and three seconds, respectively. Creighton's Varsity-8 boat, led by coxswain Ellie Ritchie, finished with a time of 5:15.32, while Drake finished at 5:11.14. The Second Varsity-8 was led by Hayley Pilcher and finished with a 5:23.5, just behind Drakes 5:26.0.
In the Novice-8, Drake finished first, while the Creighton boat led by Shea O'Neil finished second and the boat led by Jordan Robertson finished third.
"We now go into the off-season training and get ready to get back at it come Spring Break. We are expecting great things from this team this year and I am excited for the Spring season to come," added Chipps.
