ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Brogan Austin of Drake University and Megan Bober of Creighton University have been selected Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today.  Austin and Bober were honored for their performances during the period of October 24-30.

Now in its 13th year of existence, The Valley’s Scholar-Athlete program is sponsored by Prairie Farms, Roberts and Hiland Dairies.  On a weekly basis, the Conference honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.

A member of the Drake men’s cross country team, Austin, a sophomore from Boone, Iowa, became the first Bulldog runner since Bobby Anderson in 2004 to win the State Farm MVC Cross Country Championship individual title on Sunday, October 30, in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Austin, who has a 3.37 cumulative grade-point average in math and education, ran the challenging 8,000-meter course in a time of 25:15.0 and led Drake to a third-place team finish.

A setter for the Creighton volleyball team, Bober, a junior from Murdock, Nebraska, averaged 3.38 kills, 2.62 digs, 6.62 assists, 0.75 aces and 0.62 blocks per set, as the Bluejays posted road victories at Indiana State (3-0 on October 29) and Illinois State (3-2 on October 30).

Bober, who has a 3.791 cumulative grade-point average in exercise science, began the weekend with 20 assists, nine digs, eight kills and a career-high four service aces at Indiana State.  She followed with her nation’s best sixth triple-double of the season at Illinois State, recording 33 assists and 12 digs and tying her career-best with 19 kills.

To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.  Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible.  In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
