Men's Golf Takes 19th at Wendy's Kiawah Classic

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- The Creighton men finished 19th at the Wendy’s Kiawah Classic on Tuesday. The 105-golfer classic took place at the par-72, 7,061 yard Turtle Point Golf Course. The three-day, 21-team field included schools such as Wisconsin, Minnesota, Connecticut and Missouri Valley rival Bradley.

 

Creighton had a combined score of 320-311-312=943.

Kennesaw State (299-287-295=881) and Campbell (292-292-297=881) tied for first and Jacksonville State came in third, shooting 305-291-295=891.

Campbell’s Vaita Guillaume (69-73-72=214) and George Washington’s Andres Pumariega (70-71-73=214) finished tied for first. Murray State’s Patrick Newcomb (73-68-74=215) finished third.

Collin Craft was the top golfer for the Jays. The Omaha native finished tied for 24th.  The sophomore shot a 73 and was tied for eighth after the first round. He followed up the first by shooting a 77 in the second and third rounds. Daniel McKernan gradually improved during the classic finishing tied for 55th. After a slow start of 83 left him tied for 80th after the first round. The sophomore used scores of 79 and 74 in the second and third rounds respectively to help bolster his final position. Austin Miller finished tied for 60th. The senior shot rounds of 77-75-85=237.

Seniors Kevin Stanek (95th, 91-81-76=248) and Jack Dressen (102nd, 87-80-92=259) both had strong showings for the Bluejays.

This was the last competition for the Jays this fall. They return to the links in the spring.
