ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- For the seventh time in the nine-year existence of the award, Creighton University has been recognized with the Missouri Valley Conference All-Academic Award. Bluejay student-athletes posted a 3.33 cumulative grade-point average over the 2010-11 academic calendar, matching the school's best mark ever. Creighton previously shared the award in 2003-04 and was the outright winner in 2004-05 and in each of the last five years.

Notably, 105 of Creighton's 237 student-athletes (44.3 percent) earned a 3.50 GPA or better during the spring 2011 semester. Also, Creighton had 135 student-athletes make the Dean's List at least once last year, including 73 student-athletes who earned the honor both semesters.

In addition, 18 student-athletes (7.6 percent) earned perfect 4.00 GPAs during the spring 2011 semester; 180 student-athletes (75.9 percent) earned a 3.00 GPA or better in the spring of 2011 semester; and 11 teams (women's basketball, crew, men's cross country, women's cross country, men's golf, women's golf, women's soccer, softball, men's tennis, women's tennis and volleyball) had team GPAs of 3.15 or better and every team owns a cumulative GPA of 2.82 or better.

Creighton received the 2011 American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for having a team GPA of 3.45 last spring and a 3.42 cumulative GPA. Bluejay volleyball also won the award in 1998, 1999, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Creighton now owns 33 CoSIDA Academic All-American honors. Last year sophomore baseball pitcher Ty Blach was named a third-team Academic All-American.

The MVC All-Academic Award was first recommended by the league faculty representatives in hopes of recognizing institutional academic excellence. The MVC Joint Committee quickly took its lead to establish this prestigious award. The conference academic excellence award is based on the average student-athlete grade-point average for the academic year. The GPA calculations are tallied for all student-athletes in MVC-sponsored sports who compete, practice or received athletic aid during the academic year.
