Creighton men's basketball player Doug McDermott headed to Colorado Springs, Colo., on Friday, June 17th to attend the 2011 USA U19 World Championship Team Training Camp. He is one of 20 players in camp, a figure which is expected to be cut down to 12 late Sunday morning.
While he's away, Doug will be writing a blog exclusively on GoCreighton.com, and will try to keep us updated while he's away. Below is his second entry, with USA Basketball photos by Steven Maikoski/USA Basketball:
Day 2 (June 18, 2011) Today was a great day in Colorado Springs. We got to sleep in until 10:30 this morning, which was much needed considering my long day of traveling yesterday. We had a good workout this morning and I got some great feedback from some of the best coaches in the country. My team lost our first game and tied the next two. We were definitely not satisfied with the scrimmages in the morning.
We had a lunch break and some time to relax after the first session. I watched a couple episodes of Entourage in my dorm room thanks to the best video coordinator in basketball, Nate Wieseler. He put the first six seasons on my laptop for me before I took off. The second session of basketball was my best one yet. My team went 3-0 with Billy Donovan as our head coach. I now understand why he won back-to-back national titles; the guy knows what he's doing.
After a good dinner watching the CWS games in the dining hall, I got a chance to chill with some of the other guys on the team. Our bonding time consisted of watching guys get dunked on and crossed over. Luckily they couldn't find any footage of me. Tomorrow we all find out who made the team. There are so many talented players out here so I feel like everyone has a chance. Regardless of what happens I have had a great experience out here playing against some of the best players in the country.
