OMAHA, Neb. - Trever Adams belted his fifth home run of the season on Monday, propelling the Jays to a 3-2 win over NDSU after trailing into the eighth inning.  Creighton improved to 17-5 on the year with the victory, dropping the Bison to 2-16.  The Jays used solid pitching from five different pitchers on the day, with Kurt Spomer picking up his first win of the season, going 1.1 innings and striking out two, both in the top of the ninth inning.

Creighton started its normal Friday night starter Ty Blach, giving him an opportunity to get in some innings after the weekend series with North Dakota was rained out.  Blach was impressive in his two innings of work, allowing just one single (in the first inning), striking out four and not walking a batter.

The Jays got on the board in the bottom of the first inning thanks to two errors by the Bison second baseman.  With one out, Nick Judkins was hit by pitch, his third of the season .  Jimmy Swift singled to centerfield, allowing a hustling Judkins to reach third on the first hit of the game.  Trever Adams then soared a pop up just behind the first baseman.  The Bison second baseman, first baseman and right fielder all came in, looking at each other blankly as the ball came down.  The ball hit off the glove of the second baseman, allowing one run to score from third.  Swift advaned to third on the play when the ball was thrown away.  The one run would be all the Jays would get in the inning.

North Dakota State then took advantage of a rare off-kilter outing by Jonas Dufek, as Blach was relieved after two innings.  In the top of the fourth, Zach Heidmann walked and then was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt.  An infield ground out allowed Heidmann to move to third base, and then scored on a wild pitch by Dufek.

The Bison added another run in the top of the fifth inning, taking their first lead of the game.  Nick Anderson doubled to the left field fence, the only multi-base hit NDSU picked up all day.  Max Casper then moved Anderson to third on a sacrifice bunt.  Nick Colwell then singled through the left side, as the infield was playing in, giving the Bison their first lead of the game at 2-1.

Creighton struggled offensively through the game, as NDSU had a different pitcher each time out through the first five innings.  The Jays were held to just four hits on the day, but none bigger than Adams' in the bottom of the eighth inning.  The Bison brought in the starting third baseman Zach Wentz to pitch.  The Bluejays took advantage of it, starting off the inning with a Mutcheson double to left center.  Judkins advanced Mutcheson to third with a sacrifice bunt and Swift grounded out, leaving the Jays with a runner on third and two outs.  Adams drove an 0-1 pitch over the left field fence, a line drive that had no questions when it left the bat.

Kurt Spomer got the final nod to take the mound, picking up his first win of the season in his 11th appearance.  Spomer struck out Anderson swinging, Kleinendorst looking and forced Colwell into a ground out to second to close out the game, giving the Jays their 17th win of the season.

The Jays finished the day with just four hits, three walks and four strike outs.  Adams led the Jays on the day, with three RBI, a run scored and a home run.  NDSU lost its sixth one-run game of the season, with eight hits on the day, but striking out 10 times.  Creighton will be back in action at home this weekend, when they host Portland in a three game series at the Creighton Sports Complex.  Friday's game is set for 4:00 p.m., with a 2:00 p.m. start Saturday and a 1:00 afternoon game Sunday.
