Laura Kratochvil is back for her third season on the Bluejay coaching staff.  The former Bluejay catcher is in her second season as a full-time assistant afer serving as a volunteer in 2010.  The Creighton alum works primarily with catchers.

A catcher at Creighton from 2006-09, Kratochvil appeared in 155 games during her four-year career with the Bluejays, making 109 starts.  The backstop did not make an error as a sophomore or junior and finished her career with a .984 fielding percentage (only eight errors in 509 chances).

Kratochvil helped Amy Baker develop behind the plate in 2011 after she didn’t catch at all during her freshman season in 2010.  Baker led the MVC in pickoffs and ranked second in the league with 16 runners caught stealing.

The Northridge, Calif., native was enjoying a career year with the Jays in 2009, when her final season was cut short due to an injury.  She had started 24 of the 26 games she’d appeared in during her senior season, but suffered a leg injury in practice in early April.  Despite playing only half the season, she established career highs for hits, home runs and RBI.  She was leading the team with a career-high .338 average and was tops on the team in home runs (5) and RBI (24) when she suffered the injury.

As a freshman she started 43 of the 46 games she appeared in and led the team with 232 putouts, while gunning down 10 runners attempting to steal.  She finished second on the team with eight doubles, including a team-high five in conference play.  As a sophomore she backed up all-conference catcher TJ Eadus, but still threw out six of 10 attempted base stealers in limited catching duties.  She also led the team with five pinch hits, and collected 14 RBI on 13 hits in her second season.

During her junior season, Kratochvil was 4-for-11 as a pinch-hitter.  Highlights during her junior season included a game-winning RBI against All-American Taryne Mowatt and seventh-ranked Arizona and a pinch-hit, two-run home run against in-state rival Nebraska.

Kratochvil (pronounced CRAT • oh • vill) graduated from Creighton with a history degree in 2009.
