OMAHA, Neb. – Bob Warming has resigned as the head men’s soccer coach at Creighton University to accept the same position at Penn State, it was announced Monday morning.  Warming had served as head coach at Creighton for two stints covering 14 seasons.

Warming totalled a 190-61-34 (.726) record in his 14 seasons in Omaha, notching the most wins in school history.  His career at Creighton began in 1989 when he was hired to restart a men’s soccer program which had taken a four-year absence from competition.  After using one year to recruit, his first Bluejay team posted a 12-5-3 record in 1990.  He remained at CU through the 1994 season, leaving to take an administrative position at Furman.

He returned to Creighton prior to the 2001 season and returned the Bluejays to their third College Cup Final Four in 2002.  He was a six-time finalist for NCAA Division I National Coach of the Year during his time at Creighton, which included seven Missouri Valley Conference regular-season championships, seven MVC tournament titles and 11 NCAA Tournament appearances.

“Bob Warming is one of the top soccer coaches in America and we congratulate him as he accepts the head coaching job at Penn State,” said Creighton Director of Athletics Bruce Rasmussen. “We also thank him for his combined 15 years of service at Creighton, during which time he literally built our program from scratch and helped it evolve into a national power with the best facility in the country. A search committee has already been formed to select among the many candidates we anticipate wanting to be Bob’s successor.  That work will begin immediately.”

Creighton appeared in 17 consecutive NCAA Tournaments from 1992 through 2008, before finishing the 2009 season with a 7-4-5 record and narrowly missing its 18th straight bid.  The 2010 Bluejays return first-team all-region forward and 2009 leading scorer Ethan Finlay as well as 2009 MVC Freshman of the Year Dion Acoff.
